Thanks to my background as architect and LCA specialist I managed to develop an LCA tool that allows to get a preliminary estimation of the environmental impact of your project starting from a very simple 3d model.

the impact of your project

How does the tool work?

STEP 1 - Inputs

The LCA tool that I have developed just needs very elementary inputs that are generally available since the very early stages of an architectural project:

  • A simple 3D volumetric model of the buildings.             (A wide range of formats are accepted like .3dm, .3ds, .dxf and .obj)
  • Building typology
  • The percentage of glazed surface
  • The Floors' height
  • Basement nr. of storeys & height
  • Type of foundations
  • Type of structure (load-bearing columns & beams or walls)
  • Structural Material (Concrete, Timber of Steel)
  • Insulation material (Mineral wool, wood fiber or EPS)

STEP 2 - Tool Set-up

After I get the needed information I edit the 3d model in order to fit the tool and set the parameters as defined by the client.

If the client has project has special requirements (such as overhanging volumes, curved surfaces, mixed typologies or type of constructions, ...) I will adapt the tool to the specific needs.

Once the tool is set we will have a quick introduction meeting to define the type of output that you need.

STEP 3 - Ongoing feedback

While I analyse the project the tool gives me live feedback on its environmental impact.

Thanks to my architectural background I can use this moment to understand what are the critical points in terms of LCA and come up with suggestions to improve the project from an architectural and environmental point of view.

STEP 4 - Output

The results are then translated into different outputs, designed to be used in the best way possible to understand and communicate the environmental impact of the project.

You will get:

  • A 3d model that contains the simulated structure used for the calculation and a coloured mesh model of the results.
  • A detailed report in Excel that contains all the results such as the overall Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the project, as well as the GWP contribution divided into LCA Phases, Building components and Building elements.
